Desperate Housewives' slur on Philippine Medical Schools

Among my friends very few actually watch Desperate Housewives. If there would have been more Eva & Teri fan among my lot then there would have been a greater chance that I heard this from them:

"Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas?’ Coz I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

Never mind the Imelda references or the housemaid banter which may not be totally false, but this one I find appalling. Pardon my twisted sense of justice but I wonder how would the U.S. healthcare system fare without all the Filipino health and medical professionals doing what their own people refuse to do to keep America in the pink.

I’m glad I'm holding my ground until now: that I’m a Sex and the City fan. Did I mention Sarah and the girls won a lot of Emmys?

Making fun of other races or countries not your own? It's the lamest joke ever.

I would still be disgusted kung ibang country man ang nabanggit (at hindi ang beloved Philippines) ng lecheng Teri (na malaki ang butas ng ilong) na yan.

ako naman, i dont exactly hate teri, kasi writer naman ang nagsulat nyan, pero sna she was sensitive and smart enough na tanggihan na i-deliver yung line na yun

About the Teri Hatcher issue, let's not be bitter about the whole situation. There must be some pickle of truth towards this badly placed reference, or she would go on ahead and exercise some semblance of common sense over the whole situation.

I mean, if I were Hatcher, I'd be like this to my writer: "Excuse me, but I think we have a problem with this reference to the Philippines. Can we try something else, like, I dunno... (insert silence here), well you know what I mean."

Of course, that awkward silence was intentional. Smart people don't have much time for dead air.

Inasmuch as I wanted to hate the ABC execs because of the racial slur (and take note, I'm a medical professional for god's sakes), I couldn't blame them though. With 1) Recto's fake diplomas, 2) leakages in Med/Nursing boards, 3) MDs crossing the RN profession and 4)mushrooming of substandard med schools here in the phils, who would blame them if they consider us as what teri purportedly said. maybe we should start correcting what is wrong with us first before we complain on soo much things. i dont know, maybe im just babbling so i better end this comment now before i say something that i would regret for the rest of my life. =) hehehe

Sex and the City For Life! I don't like that Desperate Housewives shows. Never have and never will. I don't want to be a housewife. I just can't relate. It's not even funny. It's kinds pathetic watching the lives of vapid older women. Bah!
