Offertory

A few days back an e-mail was sent to me about a parish priest in Port Moresby who is happy to lend-out parishioner's tithes to some of his closest friends. It wasn't mentioned whether it's on a 30-day term, interest bearing or otherwise.

For the naive many this is an apt example of generosity and charity akin to sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry and caring for the sick. It is not! Easing-up your friends' parching cash flow from the flock's offering to dear Mother Church is a totally different banana.

Speaking of bananas...

Guys, what's your take on this (the financing scheme--not the banana)?

oo nga xanfactor. ayaw ng simbahan ng 5/6 kaya nga ang gagawin nila ay 3/4 o kaya 7/8. ang tanong ko lang, bakit dito sa pinas, merong programa ang simbahan at nagtayo sila ng NGO (social action center). nagpapautang sila (microfinancing scheme) sa grassroots entrepreneur with at most 20% interest p.a. + service charge and other fees. baka may bago nang mandate ang simbahan ie, to generate other income? hindi kaya?

Hmmm.... Amen! (to the Banana.

I read a story about PNG days ago. It is not about any priest or the church's financing scheme. This ia about PNG's AIDS victims being buried alive in the outskirts. How Totoots is this?
